Whipped Cream

I love using shaving cream as a sensory activity.  I saw that whipped cream was on sale at the grocery store and I thought I would do a little substitution.  Well, whipped cream is not a good substitution for shaving cream because whipped cream melts…oops.   Even though it’s nothing like saving cream, it’s still an excellent activity.

I emptied the entire can of whipped cream into a bowl and added some red food coloring.  The mixing pretty much got rid of any foamy goodness of the whipped cream.

I decided to just dump it onto the table and give J a rubber spatula and let him go at it.

First he just poked it…not really sure what to do.

Then came the spatula.

J figured out that if you hit the whipped cream with the spatula that it will splatter all over you!

There was lots of fun smearing it around on the table.

Then to J’s enjoyment and my dread…he learned how to wipe the cream off the table and onto the floor.

I did let him keep playing until he signed “All Done”

Oh what a mess!  But, I’m so glad he made one.  Making messes is great for kids, and the last time I tried an activity like this I got this look!

If your child is freaked out by gooey stuff….like J used to be…keep trying.  One day they might really love it!

  1. That's awsome. Super cool. Definitely going to try this one. Even though it melted I still think that whipped cream is a great substitute to shaving cream. Especially if he's anything like my 2 year old. Everything still goes right in the mouth. I'm sure it wouldn't take very long before mine would realize how yummy it was.

  2. Haha! I love messy activities with my daughter. We've tried shaving cream, but she still eats it. I guess whipped cream would solve that.:) How fun:)
