Blue Ocean Sensory Tray

J’s been starting to sort and is able to (sometimes) correctly identify colors.  So, I decided to do a series of different colored sensory trays to build on this new skill.

Today, I put together a blue tray.  I was going to include anything blue that I saw around the house. However, I ran across these fish foam stickers.  I immediately changed my mind and made a blue ocean tray.

I used white beans as a neutral background with clear marbles to give it a “bubbly” effect.  I then added blue pom poms, foam stickers, and pipe cleaners made to look like fish.  I always add a container of some sort (the blue bowl) and a spoon for filling/dumping.

As usual, he spent most of the time filling and dumping out the blue bowl.

Sensory trays are such a big thing around here and they keep his attention for so long!   He sits like this for ages just exploring the box.

Stay tuned for more colored sensory trays!

  4. I love the idea of doing single color themed sensory trays. It seems like you switch our your sensory activities pretty frequently. I have been trying to be more flexible based on Boogie's interest. How often do you switch? Do you let J guide you based on his interest or do you set a time ahead of time? Thanks for linking up to WOTT!
