If You Give A 2 Year Old A Camera

During the move, we found an old camera that we don’t use anymore.  I immediately handed it over to J.  Something in me knew that he would love to have a camera of his own to take pictures.  Well, I had no idea it would be one of his all-time favorite toys…and that he’d practice some great skills too!




Along the way he has taken some interesting pictures….




And some pretty good ones…




But, the best part for me was watching him figure out how to aim at a target and snap a picture.  This was really difficult for him at first.  He couldn’t keep the camera steady enough and he had some difficulty holding the camera up to his face and take the picture at the same time.  I realized today that he capable of holding the camera steady while snapping away and his aim is so much better than before!

Also, this turned out to be a great fine motor activity too.  He loves to press all the buttons and turn the dial on the camera.  Which really helps build those muscles in little fingers!



So, next time you have an old piece of technology (like a camera) hand it on over to your kid and see what happens!
