J is into anything that has to do with trucks and trains. He especially loves truck books. Here are a few of his favorites at the moment. J is 23 months old this month, but these books are great for lots of ages.

Getting Messy At The Weekly Kid's Co-op!
I usually don’t feature just one blog during the Weekly Kid’s Co-op, but this week I found a new blog that I absolutely love! She linked up a few seriously messy play ideas, and I couldn’t pick just one to feature. So, I did both!

Concoctions Gone Wild!
This is the story of how a little baking soda and vinegar science experiment went a bit crazy…all because this Mom can’t leave well enough alone.

Bubble Wrap Painting
Because we’re moving we have lots of bubble wrap hanging around the house, so I decided to do something fun with it (besides packing). So, I taped down a sheet of bubble wrap and gave J some paint and a brush.

Fun with Paint at The Weekly Kid’s Co-Op
J is really into painting right now, so I thought I’d feature my favorite painting posts from last week.
Check out how One Perfect Day did blow painting with straws. What a cool effect!

Changes Are A Comin’
If you’ve read my About Me page, you know I’m a Military Spouse. Part of holding that title means I move…a lot. And it’s about that time again for my family and me. This Southern Girl is moving to the Midwest in about 3.5 weeks!
Unlike most other people we know…we move all our stuff on our own…I know crazy huh? But, it works for us. This will be our 3rd (my 4th) across country move in 5 years, so we kind of feel like old pros at this point. Because we chose to move without professional packers, I have to pack a lot of stuff in the next few weeks. I then get the privilege of unpacking it all a few weeks later. Sounds fun huh?
Oh, and let’s not forget the large(ish) birthday party we’re throwing for J in 2 weeks, which requires a decent amount of planning, cooking, decorating, etc.
Let’s just say I have a lot to do in the next month or so. That means that I will have far less time to blog than I usually do….sad I know.
Don’t worry though…starting May 1st, some of my amazing blogging friends are going to guest post in my absence. They have some really cool and fun ideas, and I’m very excited about sharing them all with you. The best part is that you will get to meet some really great bloggers and hopefully find new blogs to follow! I will be making a few appearances here and there, so I won’t be completely gone.
Hopefully, I’ll be back in full force soon!

Colored Water Play
So this is one of those activities where I wasn’t really sure how J would play with it. I set it up and just watched to see what he would do.
It turned out to be quite fun…and we both got pretty wet!

Post-Easter Egg Fun
J is still really into plastic Easter eggs. He finds them…no matter where I hide them. He loves to say “shake shake” and open them to see if there are any prizes inside.
So….I decided to put together another fun Easter egg game….even if Easter is over.

Pretend Play: Cooking with The Real Stuff
J really likes to help me cook and loves playing in the kitchen with me. So, after seeing this post from Play Create Explore, I knew that I needed to set up a pretend play activity for J using real ingredients from the kitchen.
I loaded up my muffin tin with spices, kidney beans, dyed rice, bread crumbs, pasta, and flour. I also sat out a banana, three glass bowls, and mixing spoons.

Get Organized! 10 Ways to Organize Toys
Last month I put an end to my weekly Getting Organized Series. I needed some time to figure out a better way of featuring my favorite organizational ideas that are out in the blogging world. Well…a few weeks was all I needed, and now I’m back with a roundup of my favorite ways of organizing kid’s toys!
Sometimes it feels like kid’s toys can easily overrun a house. Stuffed animals end up everywhere, dress up clothes are thrown willy-nilly around the house, and heaven forbid you step on the Lego pieces left on the floor!
Kids toys all need homes to return to when not being played with. This is not only for good housekeeping, but also promotes independence and teaches life skills to kids. Children are more likely to keep things clean if they know where everything goes. Plus, they are able to play more independently if they know exactly where a toy is when they want it.
So, for all those reasons, and more, I did some research on ways of containing the toys. Now, I get to share my favorite ideas with you!

Mexican Cascarones–A Repost
Easter is right around the corner, so I thought I’d repost our Mexican Cascarones Sensory Tray to show you a new fun and easy way of playing with eggs. Cascarones are really for breaking over each other’s heads, and can be so much fun for all ages!
I found these gems in Texas at Hobby Lobby. They are basically blown out eggs (which just leaves the shell) filled with confetti. The idea comes from Mexico, which is why I could easily find them in Texas. I’m not sure how easy they are to find nationally, so here’s a link to make your own.
I couldn’t pass these up when I saw them, and I knew instantly that they belonged in a sensory tray for J!

Here’s the invitation for J. I just placed the Cascarones in an empty egg container and then inside his sensory tray.

Letter Games for Toddlers
J has become more and more interested in letters these days. He sees them everywhere, but still calls them all S or O. Because of this new found interest, I’ve followed suit and have come up with some fun letter recognition games for us to play.

Cloud Dough
J’s been sick for a few days now. He’s not that sick that he’s miserable and unable to play, but he’s sick enough that leaving the house is pretty much out of the question. These situations are always tough for me, because we both get a little restless after a while.
In a moment of desperation, I went to my Kids Ideas Board on Pinterest to see if I could find something new for J to do. I came upon Cloud Dough from Flights of Whimsy, and thought that it might just work.
Cloud Dough is flour and oil mixed together. It stays looking fluffy like flour, but it sticks together when squeezed in your hand or placed in a mold.
I wasn’t quite sure how J would do with it because he doesn’t really have the dexterity yet to mold things. But, I was desperate for an activity, so I gave it a try.
The original recipe calls for 8 cups flour and 1 cup baby oil. I wasn’t quite sure if J would like it, so I only used 2 cups of flour and 1/4 cup canola oil (I didn’t have baby oil). It still worked great!
