My son, like a lot of preschoolers, is always on the move. This kid doesn’t walk anywhere. He’d rather run, jump, skip, anything else but walk. He’d much rather practice his large motor skills than is tiny fine motor ones.
This is not usually a problem during the warm summer months (or spring or fall), because we go outside a lot to practice those skills. However, we haven’t been outside much in the really cold winter weather, especially with a new baby in the house.
One day last week J was bouncing off the walls, throwing toys, and otherwise reeking havoc in our house. I knew he needed to get some of that built up energy out. But, we were in the middle of a snow/ice storm.
So…I let him jump on the bed. I don’t really mind bed jumping, but my husband does. So, we don’t allow it.
But today I NEEDED him to jump! (Sorry sweetie!).
I see jumping on the bed to be a great way to practice those large motor skills,
like balance. Plus,
it’s a great mood lifter!
I am not usually one to allow J to break the rules, but I figured this was a special circumstance.
Or maybe I felt a bit like jumping too!
Hey sometimes you gotta join in on the fun!
I can’t wait to hear what my husband has to say about this!
So you tell me, are you pro or against jumping on the bed?
